Madhumitha's claim that Abhirami usually does not wear inner garments and walks around the house in transparent dresses has been met with much criticism, after social media users claimed that her statement was not only regressive, but the fact that she chose to speak about a sensitive issue in an interview meant for public was nothing but a cheap publicity stunt.

When one such user questioned Madhumitha about her statement, demanding what her problem was with Abhirami's personal choice, Madhumitha's fellow contestant in Bigg Boss Tamil, Kasthuri, responded to it, mildly in favour of Madhumitha. "She doesn't want to wear inner garments. Her body, her choice. What's your problem, Madhumitha? If your intentions were genuine, you could have messaged that woman. Why lamenting to the press?" the user had asked.

"Sorry hon. You neglect context. You make assumptions. There is such a thing as a time and place for everything. Freedom is not the right to be insensitive- goes for you and abi as much as madhumita. You are being just as judgemental or even more. Sorry babe, wrong call," Kasthuri responded to the user. Abhirami is yet to make a statement on the issue.
