As reported earlier, Mohanlal-Priyadarshan's ambitious movie ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ is all set for a grand release on August 12, ahead of Onam. The much-hyped movie was originally scheduled to hit theatres on March 26, 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic had delayed the plan. As the National Award Winning movie's release was postponed multiple times, the audiences have pinned high hopes on the epic drama.
Now, the latest that we hear is the multi-crore movie will have an exclusive three-week release on over 600 screens across Kerala. Reportedly, a verbal agreement was reached between the Film Exhibitors’ United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) and the Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA). After the Kerala government eased the lockdown restrictions, several film producers announced the release of their respective movies. However, none had chosen the Onam period. Hence, Marakkkar is expected to have a big solo run at the theatres. Meanwhile, the makers of ‘Marakkar’ have been receiving big offers from several OTT platforms too.
Set in the 16th century, the movie has Mohanlal playing the titular role of Kunjali Marakkar IV. The epic film also stars Manju Warrier, Sunil Shetty, Keerthy Suresh, Arjun Sarja, Suhasini, Prabhu, Siddique, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Mukesh, Pranav Mohanlal, and Kalyani Priyadarshan in important roles. The multi-starrer movie had bagged the National Award for the best feature film in 2019 besides awards for best special effects and best costume design.
