Recently, a cyber fraudster published ads on OLX and Quikr, masquerading as Sekhar Kammula's man or the director himself. The ads, which ran for about 25 days, invited applications from aspiring actors, who will get a chance to work in the director's next film if shortlisted.
The aspirants were asked to apply by first transferring something like Rs. 1500 to a bank account. It's suspected that lakhs of rupees were illegitimately collected this way by the alleged fraudster, who met his end when an alert aspirant found out from Kammula's office that no such ad had been issued by the director.
He went to the Hyderabad Cyber Crime wing, which has slapped cases against the elusive criminal as per Sections 165 (C) and 165(D) of the IT Act, and Section 420 of the IPC. The culprit is yet to be traced.
