When Amal Neerad, planning on his new movie decided to make Aplhonse his music director, the question on our mind is, Can the music be mind blowing, rocking and filled with emotion. And as the movie is rocking the stations with its difference, Alphonse too do not disappoint with this album and is sure, the music will be on the best of 2007 list. It seems that the music director had tried to move away from the tried techno dance formula to expand the genre with rock, folk, country and jazz.
The album has some of the good lyrics by Jophy Tharakan and Santhosh Varma, who are also in the way out to make it big. With recruiting some of the best singers to render the best tracks in the album, and by marking a few debutants for the others, he has played safe and has brought out an altogether different experience.
1. Hip Hop Singer: Shelton Pinhero, Shirdhin Thomas
The album opens with the hip hop song, presented by the two debutant singers, Shelton Pinhero, Shirdhin Thomas and chorus. The funky song sets the mood of the album with lyrics, stressing on the crazy things that makes life and need for the changes in life. The middle piece which resembles of bond track excellently merges with the track.
2. Muthumazha Singer: Jyotsna, Vineeth Sreenivasan
The song is a sweet romantic duet. Bravura of spirited emotions oozes out through echoing sounds, rhythms and notes and makes it emblematically enriched for the film and album. The lyrics convey the search for that one true love that we know we will find one day. This one is the perfect opener for this album hooking the listener with emotions and music.
3. Oh January Singer: Sayanora
This song on the soundtrack, Oh January finds Sayanora channeling the voice of Shobha Mudgal in a techno folk song, with a bit of Persian and Russian music thrown into it. Our music directors are known for mixing different styles of music together, but I dare you to sit still with this song which has euphoria of hope and deliverance loaded with resplendent opera and symphony touches.
Seriously though, Sayanora is at the top of her game and really sings her heart out with this one. The Flamenco rhythm and Spanish guitar riffs all make for a song that will take you to a different place. Arrangements are hip-n-happening as the keyboard fillers dress up the entire song as if a beautician giving final touches to a bride. The soundtrack delivers a hip-shaking thrust of energized dance floor but it has come too paced up in the offerings
4. Oru Vaakkum Singer: Alphonse, Mridula
This is one of the favorite in the album with the music director himself wielding the mike with Mridula, another fresher in playback singing. A loop of drums ornaments the entire song.
The killer electric guitar interlude repeated through this song steals the show and you have the making of an instant hit. The song is repeated as a solo in the album where Alphonse's vocals test the length and breadth of medium and higher scale. The absolute control that he exhibits while peaking towards the heights of sentiments is a riveting, even though he seems to give less care to properly lip the lyrics. From the electric guitar, to the use of live drums and even the harmonica, the track is mind blowing stuff.
5. Vida Parayukayano Singer: Shreya Ghoshal
Shreya Ghoshal, in her first outing in Malluwood, once again proves her mettle at such intense tracks. Alphonse with his precise usage of instruments on a soothing melody set on a profound lyrics result in a winning track on the album, presently in the chart tops. The more we listen to this
