National Award winning musician Bhupen Hazarika passed away today at 4.30 pm, owing to multi-organ failure. He breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital, where he was admitted following failing health.

According to reports, Bhupen Hazarika's health started deteriorating from October 23 owing to pneumonia. He had to undergo a minor surgery whereby doctors placed a food pipe into his system. In fact, Hazarika was under treatment since June 29 after he complained of breathlessness.

Aged 86, Hazarika was well-known as a poet, singer, lyricist, musician, filmmaker and writer. 'Gandhi To Hitler' had been his last film in which he sang Mahatma Gandhi's favourite bhajan "Vaishnav Jan". The music genius has also won Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award among other acclaims.
