Bhumika on U Turn, her priorities & more

Bhumika Chawla is gearing up for the release of 'U Turn'. In this interview, she talks about her role in the movie, what she looks at before okaying a film and more.

What kind of a role are you playing in this mystery thriller?

My role in 'U Turn' is quite different from what I have played in other films. Only if an artist plays distinct roles does she or he find satisfaction and recognition. Before doing this film, I had watched the original. I have tried to be myself in the film while attempting to give what director Pawan Kumar sought of me. I am excited to watch the audience's reaction to my performance and role in the movie.

Isn't your role not full-fledged in the movie?

More than the running time of a role in a movie, I look at its prominence in the story. Depending on the role, I deliver the desired impact with my performance. For example, in the upcoming Hindi release 'Kamoshi', my role is not lengthy. Every role that I am doing in different languages is different. I am getting offers in Tamil as well. If I find some nice team and role, I will definitely work there.

What's your take on the increasing number of women-oriented films in the industry?

I have done women-oriented films in the past. Of late, we are seeing more and more female-oriented movies being made. But there is a need for such films to be made in greater magnitude. Our writers have to create such roles.

What's your take on Samantha, U Turn's USP?

Samantha has done a wonderful job. I have watched her in 'Eega' in the past. Once in front of the camera, she performs with an instantaneous energy.

How do you see ups and downs in your career?

It was in 1999 that I first entered the film industry. I have been here for about 20 years. I see so much change has happened since then. Things change. With this, my perspective towards them has also changed. Successes and failures don't affect me much. I have been brought up like this. That's why I am the way I am.
