In last few years, there has been s drastic change in how women are portrayed in Hindi cinema. The credit for this change goes to progressive filmmakers as well as actreses who played upstanding and non conformist characters in their films. Bhumi Pednekar is one such actress. She has starred in films like 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, ‘Son Chiriya’, ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’, ‘Bala’, ‘Sandh Ki Aankh’ among others and one thing that all of these have in common is the theme of demanding societal changes.
Talking about the kind of films she wishes to do, Bhumi states, “I have always been super confident of my film choices. I have always wanted them to be different and unique, preferably with a message and most importantly, portray women correctly. As a woman, I feel it is my duty to choose scripts that portray women with a lot of dignity. I’m happy that I have got the chance to play such characters due to the fantastic scripts that have come my way.”
She is also grateful for all the filmmakers who gave her opportunities to bring such stories to life. She says, "I’m fortunate for all the opportunities that allowed me to play such characters who stood up for themselves and society. I connected with my characters at a deeper level and maybe that’s why people loved them too.For that, I’m indebted to my directors and producers who saw me as fit to represent such modern Indian women on screen."
