Bhola Shankar Review
Bholaa Shankar has been promoted a lot by Chiranjeevi in the last few days. The film directed by Meher Ramesh is out in the open and, read our detailed review here.
Story:
Shankar(Chiranjeevi) reaches Kolkata with his sister Maha(Keerthy Suresh) for her education. There, Shankar gets interlinked with a human trafficking gang and he starts killing them one after the other. This truth about Shankar's real side is found out by the female lead Tamannah. The film then goes back in time and reveals the story of Bholaa Shankar and why he came to Kolkata in the first place and what is his mission.
Analysis:
Bholaa Shankar is the official remake of Vedhalam and Meher Ramesh has made enough changes to suit the stardom of Chiranjeevi. The film is based on the past and present of Bholaa Shankar played by Chiranjeevi. While it showcases Chiranjeevi in a solid manner, the rest of the proceedings are simple and do not create anything new for the audience. Meher Ramesh has showcased Chiranjeevi in a decent manner. Be it the fights or songs, Chiranjeevi will be loved by his fans.
But where does the film falter? Well, it is the emotions that do not connect well in the film. The so-called brother and sister bond is not brought out well in the film. The first half has nothing much to showcase and the comedy featuring Vennela Kishore and Chiranjeevi is not that great. The villains showcased are also weak and they do not pose any threat to a star like Chiranjeevi. Meher Ramesh should have chosen a proper Telugu actor to make things better.
One more disappointment in the film is the music by Mahati Swara Sagar. People come to see Chiranjeevi dance and sing hit songs but that does not happen. The production values of the film are just about okay and do not boast of anything special. The first half is boring and things start working only in the second half. The latter part has decent comedy and some good moments. But it is very late by then as the proceedings are predictable. But Chiranjeevi with his performance and screen presence shadows the film and makes it enjoyable for his fans.
Verdict:
Bholaa Shankar is a very routine and old-school commercial drama. Though it does not showcase anything new and is low on emotions, Chiranjeevi makes sure he impresses his fans with his comedy timing and sheer screen presence. Watch it only for him.
