Bhaskar The Rascal

Like Bhaskar always say it is a ‘beaaaautiful’ movie which can be enjoyed by all types of viewers. Bhaskar is a rascal like the title suggests but the mega actor became more and more perfect in this movie compared to his last films. Bhaskar the Rascal is a very typical Siddique movie which is narrated in a very simple manner. Glamour and the manliness of Mega star is very much exploited by the director through this movie.

Bhaskar reacts arduously to any injustice or wrong doings he encounters and that might be the reason why everyone secretly calls him rascal. He has a father who is a businessman Sankara Narayanan played by Janardhanan, who but fails to do well in the field. Then there is Aadi (Sanoop) his son. Relationships are brilliantly brought to the fore in the movie. The thread of relationships is further brought forward, when Bhaskar encounters Hima (Nayanthara) a single mother. Hima’s daughter Shivani, played by Baby Anikha and Aadi are very close to each other and play cupid to bring the two together.

The plus points of the movie are the on screen chemistry of Mammootty and Nayanthara and the aptness of each and every characterisation. Then it is all the action sequences, which marked Bhaskar’s character, were done superbly. The background score by Deepak Dev and cinematography by Vijay Ulaganath adds to the feel of the movie. The first half of the movie is replete with much jesting with ace comedians Harisree Ashokan, Kalabhavan Shajon, Saju Navodaya, Guiness Pakru, Chali Pala, providing some genuine laughs. Their on screen antics provide a much needed comic respite as well as a festive air. I am not a person to rate Mammootty. Even though in this movie I am supposed to mention it because of the natural acting that he made in this movie.

Mammootty is at his best as Bhaskar in Bhaskar The Raskal. Then it is Nayathara, She perfected her role with charm and grace.  Baby Anikha and Sanoop just lived as Aadi and Shivani. Both of them have acted very competitively. One a negative note, the movie becomes staid as it goes on to the second part. The climax too lacks punch and the way the movie ends, makes one feel like it is just another run of the mill movie with the same old ingredients. The other state villain also couldn’t do his part well. If one takes away the comic and action elements, the movie will appear drab. It is the way in which comic elements combined with relationships that make the movie a perfect family entertainer.

But one shouldn’t keep high hopes of it being unique or exceptional, since the theme and execution is quite run of the mill. However, the movie is a decent attempt at the comic genre and Siddique - Mammootty combo does strike again, added to Nayanthara’s charm and grace. This is a decent comedy entertainer that can be enjoyed with the family.
