A team of eight filmmakers from Tamil cinema headed by veteran Bharathiraja organised a press meet condemn the arrest of activist Thirumuragan Gandhi and three others under the Goonda's act and press for his other
During his address to the press Bharathiraja said, Thirumurugan Gandhi has been arrested as he criticised the Central Government ruled by the BJP.
“Did he commit murder of burglary? Is he a Naxalite? Or did he start a political party and earn money? What did he do? He criticised the Central government".
The septuagenarian filmmaker also made scathing remarks on the Superstar Rajinikanth's proposed entry into Tamil Nadu politics and people wanting him to become the CM of the state, without mentioning the star actor's name.
The 'Kodi Parakkudhu' director said non-Tamils (those who are not born as Tamils) can come to Tamil Nadu, stay here, make money and even enter politics but only the son of the soil should rule the Tamil people.
He also asked whether Rajinikanth know about the issues affecting Tamil Nadu or at least the borders of the state.
Directors Vetrimaran. Ameer, Ram. Va.Gowthaman, Bramma and Kamalakannan are the others who condemned the arrest of Thirumurugan Gandhi and sought his release.
