Bharathan

Madhu Muttam is a scriptwriter who entered the history of Malayalam cinema with his work in a single film. The phenomenal success in box office and among critics of his earlier film Manichithrathaazhu in 1994 is largely credited to Madhu Muttom, who remained silent for too long even after such a hit. The film was remade as Chandramukhi 'in Tamil and as 'Apthamitra' in Kannada which were also run away successes there. Now in 2007 Madhu is back, this time with a science fiction film - a rare breed in Malluwood. The film titled Bharathan is the second venture by the director Anil Das who debuted by Sargavasantham in 1999.

The film features Bijumenon in the title role. Bharatan, the protagonist is an unemployed youth with post graduate education. He is temporarily engaged as a parallel college teacher, but his mind is all a sanctuary of scientific imagery and discoveries. Due to social circumstances, he was forced to make a register marriage with Geetha, whom he loved for long.

The entire village, except a few, could hardly find the proficiency of Bharathan and stamp him as a misdo. This phenomenal eccentricity exhibits only at times in Bharathan and at those times he become another human totally different in maneuvers and language, trying to sort out various scientific debacles and to invent master machines even from house hold utensils.

At times, Bharathan is trying to sort out the nature and problems of future's energy systems. Only a few including Geetha, Peter and Thankachan realizes the potential of activity in which Bharathan is immersed at times. This is the character sketch of the role played by Biju Menon in the film who is very much thrilled to become part of the work and to be in such a role of eminence. The film enters a level up as the character shows traces of amnesia, when he even forgets about the concepts him built-up for long. Towards the end the film shares the thrill in which the protagonist works over the disease of forgetfulness to find his dream inventions come true.

The surprise package of the film is Suresh Gopi who appear in a cameo guest role as world famous psychiatrist Dr Pandala. He is the man who  understands the real prospects of Bharathan and help him to overcome the states of helplesness. The film also features Jagathy, Jayakrishnan, Rajan P Dev, Kalpana and Sudheesh. Geethu Mohandas is playing the role of Geetha, wife of Bharathan in the film.

The film cinematographed by Ramchandrababu is produced by Suresh Kozhenchery in the banner of Nanda Kishora films. The lyrics of Kavalam are set to music by M Jayachandran. The film is edited by Rajagopal and P.R.O is Abraham Lincoln. The film will hit the theatres by April of this year. The serious viewers are eagerly awaiting the release of the film as Malluwood hardly witnessed any well made science fiction in the last decade.
