After couple of actresses played musical chairs for the leading lady’s role, its Deepika Padukone who has been finally bagged the part for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Ram Leela’.

Much has been written about this Bhansali’s forthcoming romantic venture, which is the adaptation of Shakespeare’s legendary work ‘Romeo Juliet’.

While Ranveer Singh has been reported to be signed as Romeo, there was a constant hunt for someone to play his lady love.

Initially the role was bagged by Kareena Kapoor, but then she left the project citing some problem with the contract. Then Priyanka Chopra’s name was in the list.

Later, Katrina Kaif was seriously considered for the role, since the script demanded a fair actress.

Apparently she had date issues and now the offer has been landed in Deepika’s court, which she grabbed gladly.

Talks are that Deepika in fact had Ekta Kapoor-Karan Johar project on hand, but since that one was taking time, the actress felt to give those dates to Bhansali’s film.

On the other hand, Bhansali is quite happy to have Deepika on board.

Incidentally, this is second movie which Deepika bags, the one that Kareena rejected.

The first one was Rohit Shetty’s ‘Chennai Express’, which was earlier offered to Bebo.
