Bhaktha Janangalude Sradhakku Review

In the post modern era loaded with human gods and demi-gods, director Priyanandhanan has landed into a controversial and timely subject for his new movie `Bhakthajanangalude Shradhakku'. The movie, told as a satire pokes fun at the new age habits of people, who are addicted to liquor for petty reasons and those who very easily falls prey to some kind of faith and belief's and their exploitations.
 
The movie has Kavya Madhavan as Sumangala, who eloped from her house to marry Viswanathan (Irshad), a government employee. But now with two kids, Suma is forced to run a local tea shop in their remote village, to make both ends meet, as  Viswanthan has turned into a drunkard. He is regular in making petty fights and often lands into the local police station. One fine day, Suma who knows about her husband's unwarranted faith on the local goddess, decides to act strange to tease her husband and publicises herself as the incarnation of the local deity, Kambakkattu devi. Her attempts to make her husband to drop drinking works out big time , but things goes awry as the stories about Devi spreads far and wide and Suma is instantly placed in sanctified heights. Their silent village of Maruthupuram is now Sumanagalapuram, flooded with crowd from far and wide, who are there to have a glimpse of their goddess.
 
The story by Renjith, based on the real life back stories of many so called demi-gods in our circuit, packs in the topical issues with right commercial elements. The scripts by B Manoj is also appreciable with some exceptionally written dialogues. Priyanandhanan seems to have metamorphosed to suit the demands of commercial films. Both the scriptwriter and the director surprises you at the level of maturity, the command over the craft, the display of confidence in their very first outing into commercial Mollywood. Priyan's story telling is much different from his conventional patterns, but is tad slow at times. The ashram and its people seems caricaturistic and their acts seems pretty predictable, though the play of coincidences increase the interests of the narratives.
 
Kavya Madhavan, seems to have the best of the roles in her comeback, as Sumangala in this movie, which she has utilised to the helm. She seems to have worked overtime to give the rightest sounds for her dubbing track. Perhaps, the role may again post her strongly for the year's best in acting awards. Irshad is fine as Kavya's husband and live the role blissfully and shares an excellent chemistry with Kavya. The others in the cast including Kalabahavan Mani and Sreeraman also play their part well. The technical side though not exceptional, gels with the demands of the movie, though the makeup department seems a little amateurish.
 
Anyhow, 'Bhakthajanangalude Sraddhakku' is the best of the films that has came out for this Easter season. The movie is a definite prescription for every families of Kerala, who instantaneously succumb to prejudices and false beliefs.
