Fresh out of the IPL, the cricketers have already assembled in England with their respective national teams for the World Cup. While their camaraderie in the Indian tournament may have been delightful to watch, they have now been pitted against each other and the stakes are very high. Some matches are already over but we may get a chance to see these clashes even in the knockout stage. Chennai Super Kings - Runners up CSK put up a good performance this year. The highest scorer of the team MS Dhoni (India) versus the Purple Cap Winner Imran Tahir (South Africa) was a contest to watch out for. Mitchell Santner (New Zealand) who has taken 63 wickets in 55 innings may find Faf du Plessis (South Africa) to be next in line with his left-arm orthodox bowling.

Delhi Capitals - Rishabh Pant (India) was impressive in the IPL scoring 488 runs in the tournament. But his teammate Kagiso Rabada (South Africa) who was second in line for highest wicket-taker, will not let the batsman get his runs easily.

Kings XI Punjab - Chris Gayle (West Indies) and fast bowler Mohammed Shami (India) is going to be another pair that will prove interesting to watch.

Kolkata Knight Riders - Spinner Kuldeep Yadav (India) has seen wickets coming steadily and Carlos Brathwaite (West Indies) has been hitting sixes readily. Who will triumph in the WC? Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik (India) is capable of changing matches as we all know, but his KKR teammate Lockie Ferguson (New Zealand) with 46 wickets in 27 innings is not going to prove easy if the teams face off.

Mumbai Indians - With 529 runs, Quinton de Kock (South Africa) emerged as one of the highest run scorers in the 2019 IPL. Number 1 ranked bowler Jasprit Bumrah (India) had a good run in the series too, ending with 19 wickets. Would their statistics be starkly different if they had the chance to play against each other again? Time will tell. Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka) and Rohit Sharma (India) are two players who both have experience in the WC. Both have proved valuable to MI time and time again. This battle is going to be worth a watch. Evin Lewis (West Indies) can be a destructive force at the top order. With 105 fours and 24 sixes in ODIs, will the batsman prove too difficult for rookie Jason Behrendorff (Australia)?

Royal Challengers Bangalore - Moeen Ali (England) and Marcus Stoinis (Australia), both all-rounders, have taken a fair share of wickets and hit a good number of runs. Which one will outdo the other though? Shimron Hetmeyer (West Indies), Under 19 WC winning captain has shown a lot of promise. Yuzvendra Chahal (India) is no exception and has impressed with 72 wickets in 41 matches. The spinner’s bowling against the attacking batsman will be a good contest for sure. Captain Virat Kohli (India) has been in good form but Tim Southee (New Zealand) is not going to let him get his runs easily.

Sunrisers Hyderabad - Orange Cap Winner David Warner (Australia) and Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) will be a superb match not only in terms of potential but also attitude. Watch out for these two in the WC. Captain Kane Williamson (New Zealand) has been sailing smoothly with 5554 runs in 139 matches. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar (India) may be just the right option to rock his boat. Experienced batsman Martin Guptill (New Zealand) has scored 237 runs in a WC quarterfinal. Newcomer Vijay Shankar (India) may be tested by this opening batsman. Jonny Bairstow (England) has just emerged out of a fantastic IPL season. Left-arm orthodox bowler Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) may prove to be Bangladesh’s right weapon against the right-handed batsman.

Rajasthan Royals - RR has a good number of players who will be in the WC this year. Ben Stokes (England) may meet a tough opponent while playing against RR teammate leg spinner Ish Sodhi (New Zealand). Will Oshane Thomas’ (West Indies) bouncers, yorkers and swing balls prove too much for batsman Jos Buttler (England)? Steve Smith (Australia) and Jofra Archer (England) are likely to set the field on fire when they faceoff. Keep your eyes peeled open for this clash.
