Lonely Giraffe's Epic Odyssey: Benito's Emotional 40-hour Quest to Find Family

Benito, the 'lonely' giraffe, arrived in central Mexico following a 40-hour road trip. The four-year-old giraffe, who had no pals, will join seven other giraffes, including three females, at the Africam Safari Park in central Puebla State, near the country's most famous Spanish colonial-era cathedrals. Environmentalists' worries regarding Benito's living circumstances at Ciudad Juarez's Central Park Zoo prompted his move.
Benito travelled in a 16.5-foot container. He spent the weekend away from weather, noises, and landscapes since he was comfortable in the container. The container contained straw, alfalfa, water, vegetables, and Benito's monitoring equipment. The cargo is followed by a convoy for safety.
Benito was escorted to the medical examination room upon arrival. In the next days, park officials will introduce him to the herd. Park director Frank Carlos Camacho said they wanted to acclimatize him to the herd and new habitat.
Since there was minimal shelter and no cages at Benito's former residence in Ciudad Juarez, the giraffes faced the weather. At Africam Safari Park, Benito will have a larger environment that mimics giraffes' natural habitat in Africa. Benito reaches sexual maturity and is expected to participate in breeding initiatives to save his species.
Camacho was optimistic about adding Benito to the herd because the park offered giraffes with a pleasant and reproducing environment. Visitors to the park encounter animals in a setting that mimics their natural environment, akin to a safari.
Benito's tour is an important step in terms of improving living conditions and taking part in conserving giraffes at Africam Safari Park.
