Mentally ill woman doesn't get medicines during lockdown, kills husband

In a disturbing incident reported from Bengaluru, a 65-year-old woman stabbed her husband to death after she became violent as a result of not being properly medicated amid the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

The incident reportedly happened at their residence located near the KIADB's fourth phase on the Hosakota-Hosur Main Road at 3 am on Friday. The woman, who became mentally unstable after the death of her two sons, was being administered medical treatment and had allegedly started exhibiting violent behaviour due to unavailability of medicines over the lockdown. Her 70-year-old husband had been staying in a house nearby, fearing attacks from his wife over her growing instability. Early Friday morning, the woman assaulted her husband with a sharp object and ended up stabbing him. Despite the neighbours rushing the man to a hospital immediately, he succumbed to his injuries. The woman apparently was not even aware of the fact that she had killed her husband and asked about his whereabouts later that day to her relatives.

Medical documents substantiating her relatives' claims that the accused was mentally ill, were produced to the police, who later sent her in for a medical examination. A case has been booked against her under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
