With the tremendous success of biopics likes BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, PAAN SINGH TOMAR, THE DIRTY PICTURE, MARY KOM, the mad rush to mint money producing biopics has become the latest mantra of Bollywood. Joining the list of umpteen biopics lined up in 2015 is a biopic on the living Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar!
What`s most fascinating is that unlike other biopics which have Bollywood actors essaying their role on silver screen, the biopic on Sachin Tendulkar will star the Master Blaster himself playing the protagonist in the movie to be released this year.
According to Krishna Ananthan of Mumbai-based Production Company 200 Not Out that is producing the film, the company has acquired the rights to make the film on Sachin Tendulkar from World Sports Group (WSG), the official Manager for Sachin Tendulkar's brand and commercial interests across the world.
The film is going to be directed by sports film specialist James Erskine, a London-based award-winning writer, director and producer. Ravi Bhagchandka, the founder of 200 Not Out said, "Erskine is a master in making films on sports personalities like ONE NIGHT IN TURIN, (football) ; BATTLE OF THE SEXES (Tennis); Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist' (Cycle). He has also directed a cricket film, FROM THE ASHES."
"We want to pay an inimitable tribute to the supreme accomplishment of Bharat Ratna, Sachin Tendulkar, hence we wanted to settle for a director, who is the best and nothing less," he quipped.
Krishna Ananthan briefing the media said, "Sachin Tendulkar has given his consent for the film and is quite excited about the film." He added, "Besides acting Sachin is passionately involved in the making of the film and has shared many of his untold anecdotes into the making of the film that has added an extra spice that will come as a surprise to the viewers."
"The shooting of the film has been going on for the past year and we aim to release the film by the end of this year in minimum 2,000 theatres across the world," revealed Krishna Ananthan.
