The 'Brahmastra' pair, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, on Tuesday, were stopped from entering a temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The reason cited by protesters is that the 'Sanju' and 'Shamshera' actor is a beef-eater.

Owing to the protests and the resultant fracas involving policemen and Bajrang Dal activists, 'Beef' today started trending on Twitter India. Netizens have forayed into the issue.

Twitter user Divya Kumar Soti supported the view that beef-eaters shouldn't force themselves into any temple. "Insistence upon visiting Hindu temples while being a proud beef-eater is no different from insistence upon wearing Hijab in violation of prescribed school uniform," he tweeted.

Election tracker Pradeep Bhandari opined that Hindus can't be expected to stay mum when cows are killed for culinary purposes. "You proudly claim to be fond of beef and expect the majority who worship cow to be your audience. If you have the right to express they have the right to protest. Hindus protesting in Ujjain are not criminals that they should have been lathi charged," he tweeted.

Yet others are contending that the Ujjain protests are a desperate attempt by mobs to ensure that 'Brahmastra' gets embroiled in controversy. Its advance bookings are solid and the failure of the 'Boycott Bollywood' campaign is there for all to see.
