The Supreme Court, dismissing review petitions against India's Rafale deal with France, today closed a contempt plea filed by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi against former Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Her plea against RaGa was on grounds of Rahul "wrongfully attributing to the apex court 'Chowkidar chor hai' slogan against Prime Minister Narendra Modi".
The apex court has asked Rahul, who is an MP from Wayanad, to be more careful in the future. Rahul had made the 'Chowkidar chor hai' comment his biggest cry ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. His charge was that Modi favoured his cronies in negotiating the Rafale deal and awarding of contracts under the multi-billion dollar deal.
Reacting to the Thursday order, BJP working president JP Nadda said, "From street to Parliament, Rahul Gandhi and his party tried hard to mislead the country on this issue but truth prevailed. I wish Rahul is in the country and offers apologies to the nation."
