The legend of Tamil Cinema K Balachander celebrates his 77th birthday Today.

Known for his distinct film-making style, his films analyze unusual or complicated interpersonal relationships and social themes.

In his career, he has encouraged and contributed to the flourishing of the Tamil film industry and has introduced into Indian cinema key actors such as Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth.

A playwright-turned-director, Balachander has successfully completed directing 100 films.

He stamped his class in films like Ethir Neechal, Bama Vijayam, Apoorva Raagangal, Avargal, Thaneer Thaneer, 47 Natkal, Sindhu Bhairavi, Ek Duuje Ke Liye to name a few.

KB received the Padma Shri award in 1987 and introduced many talents like Kamal Haasan, Rajnikanth, Prakash Raj, Saritha, Sujatha, Saran (director), Ramesh Aravind, Vivek, Madhavi, Vimala Raman and Srividya.
