A veteran cameraman with high reputation and wide knowledge Basavaraj with many accolades is giving a big salute to the Dadasaheb Phalke award cameraman VK Murthy in his one hour documentary.
Almost all the work for this documentary by cameraman Basavaraj is over and he intends to screen it at the 10th Bengaluru International Film festival starting from Feb 22 to March 1.
A notable cameraman from Kannada filmdom from the era of Puttanna Kanagal doyen of Kannada cinema BS Basavaraj making a documentary on national acclaimed VK Murthy is what makes it very special. Basavaraj made 13 minute’s documentary another legendary cameraman RNK Prasad. He was first one to use Mitchell camera successfully. Basavaraj a nature lover, humble human being recently worked as camera advisor to Edakallu Gudda Chandrasekhar direction ‘Kempammana Court’.
A Mysurean VK Murthy as a technician winner of Dadasaheb Phalke life sketch is described in this work of BS Basavaraj authentically. The travel of VK Murthy in over five decades of cinematography is brought in this documentary by Basavaraj. His days in the first batch of SJP with Mahalakshmi studio, Pali Mistry, Gurudut etc are part of the content. VK Murthy worked in nearly 20 films in Hindi (Kagaz Ke Phool, Pyasa, CID, Chaudini Ka Chand, Aar Paar, Sahib Bibi Aur Gulam, Baazi, Ziddi, Naya Zamana etc) and most of them with legend Gurudut.
BS Basavaraj has spoken to leading directors like Padmasri Dr Girish Kasaravalli, SV Rajendra Singh (he made Hoovu Hannu with VK Murthy as cameraman) Vidyashanker, GS Bhasker and a few others.
BS Basavaraj doing documentaries on various personalities like Dr Rajakumar, Siddalingaiah and others has become a hobby. The right share of respect and remuneration has not come for this well deserved personality. He is investing on his works from his earning at this ripe age.
