The live-action Barbie movie with Margot Robbie in the lead as Barbie and Ryan Gosling playing Ken has been a box office success in India, pulling in 21 crore in its collections. However, Monday saw a slowdown for the film, estimated to be around 5%, reported Sacnilk.com.
Greta Gerwig's film Barbie follows in the footsteps of this illustrious fashion doll as she embarks on her own independent journey of self-discovery amidst her escalating existential crisis. Starring America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell are just a few of the impressive ensemble cast featured within the film.
Fittingly, the release of the film coincided with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, a dark biopic centered around the father of the atomic bomb. Both movies made more than a global impact, earning the moniker "Barbenheimer."
Barbie's opening weekend showed promise, beginning with ₹5 crore and earning a 30 percent boost on Saturday, growing to ₹6.5 crore. It further rose to ₹7.15 crore on Sunday but dropped on Monday, totaling ₹2.5 crore. The film now stands at an approximate total of ₹21.15 crore.
In the wake of Barbenheimer’s success, there are dreams that Hollywood will be more original with smart movies, away from reboots, superhero franchises, and toy adaptations. The industry needs to lean into truly innovative ideas that connect with audiences.
