With heavy rains lashing Bengaluru, there has been a rapid surge in demand for hotel rooms and a rise in tariffs. As many apartments at LB Shastri Nagar off the Old Airport Road are cut off from water supply and electricity, the residents of this area are forced to book hotel rooms for their accommodation.
According to the reports, the room rents in India's IT capital have doubled to Rs, 30,000- Rs 40,000 per night from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per night a few days ago. Most of the hotels in flood-ravaged areas in Whitefield, Outer Ring Road, Old Airport Road and Koramangala are fully booked till Friday.
It was also reported that many residents could not get rooms even at higher rates as most city hotels are fully booked for the next few days. The reason for this is said to be the bulk bookings. According to hotel owners, the rooms are most likely to remain unavailable as many residents have booked rooms for a minimum of ten days.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall for the city for the next five days. A red alert has been issued and people have been asked to take necessary precautions and those living on the ground floors have been asked to shift to safer places.
