Nara Rohit's 'Balakrishnudu' is set to release on Nov 24. In this interview, the actor talks about his role, why the title, his upcoming movies, and more.

In the trailer, a character is heard saying that it has been long since a faction story has been heard. Is the story of 'Balakrishnudu' pretty new?

I wouldn't say it's a new story. But the way it has been told is very entertaining. Our film is a full-on commercial product.

Was it a conscious decision to do a commercial movie?

I had been wanting to do a commercial movie for long. 'Balakrishnudu' coming my way is rather a co-incidence. When Pavan Mallela told me the story, I didn't want to miss it.

Didn't you find it rather risky to team up with a new director?

I have worked with various kinds of directors in the past. I never found it risky to work with Pavan Mallela. The way he gave me the narration, it made me want to work with him. Pavan came to me because actor Ajay, who is also this film's main villain, had suggested my name. I had been telling Ajay that I would like to play a full-on commercial role.

What is your character like in the movie?

I am playing a money-hungry youngster named Balu. He can do anything for the sake of money. That said, Balu has got no negative shades. This is one of the most distinct characters that I have ever played.

Tell us about Regina Cassandra's role.

Hers is a full-fledged character in the movie. She is not a typical girl, but will be seen with tomboyish shades.

Is there any special reason why the title is 'Balakrishnudu'?

There is no special reason. We were looking for a title that would sound out-and-out commercial. When Pavan suggested the title, all of us liked it.

What made you come down in weight for the movie? Aren't you doing six-packs in the movie?

I had wanted to come down in weight. But since Pavan pushed hard to go the whole hog, I ended up toning up more. Between 'Jyo Achyutananda' and this film, I have reduced by 21 kilos. As for the six-packs thing, it's not a full-fledged one.

Haven't you slowed down a lot this year?

Last year, I had as many as five releases. I couldn't take stock of the things as I was too busy shooting one film after another.

What are your upcoming movies?

'Aatagallu' in Paruchuri Murali's direction also stars Jagapathi Babu garu. This one is a thriller. A film in Chaitanya Dantaluri's direction is also in the offing. I am listening to a lot of romantic stories.
