Looks like Nandamuri Balakrishna has been keen on improving the prospects of the Telugu film industry in Vizag. This urge is not new.
Film producer and the Nata Simha's friend Ambika Krishna has revealed in an interview that Balayya was among the first ones to apply for 20 acres of land when the YS Rajasekhar Reddy government allocated 300 acres for the purpose of developing an ecosystem for Tollywood in Visakhapatnam. "As soon as I came to know of the allocation, I went to Vizag with my secretary to see whether the land was vacant or trespassed by grabbers. If Balakrishna wanted land for a studio, so also AVM Studios and others. But nothing came of it eventually," Ambika said.
After the bifurcation of the unified Andhra Pradesh, little progress has been made by AP in competing with Telangana to attract investments from the Telugu film industry.
