Director Bala is considered one of the modern greats of Tamil cinema having given critically acclaimed films 'Sethu', 'Pitha Magan', 'Nandha', 'Naan Kadavul' and 'Avan Ivan' among others. After the commercial success of 'Naachiyaar' in 2018 starring Jyothika and G.V. Prakash Kumar, Bala directed 'Varma' the debut movie of Dhruv Vikram.

However creative differences arose between Bala and 'Varma' producer and the completed film (remake of Arjun Redd) was shelved and instead 'Aditya Varma' a faithful remake was released in 2019.

R.K. Suresh has now made the Bala project official by posting comparative images of himself weighing 73 and then gaining 22 kgs for the character he is going to play. The rest of the cast and crew announcement is expected very soon.
