If there's one film that has suffered the most cause of the lockdown, it has to be Akshay Kumar starrer 'Sooryavanshi'. The large scale cop drama is awaiting it's release for more than a month now and the release date was finally revealed to be April 30. However, with massive rise in the Corona virus cases in the country and especially Maharashtra, the release of the film is in trouble again.
Makers have the option of releasing the film digitally but director Rohit Shetty is totally against it. The films which were theatrically released in March amidst the pandemic have all been box office failures. Keeping this in mind, lots of projects with nearing release dates have postponed the release.
A source clsoe to the film revealed, "With the suspension of night shows due to night curfews in cities like Mumbai and an atmosphere of uncertainty, it’s a huge risk for a big budget film to release in theatres at this point. Given people’s safety concerns, the film is unlikely to release on April 30.” According to industry insiders, the makers are contemplating on a couple of options. The film can either opt for a direct OTT release, simultaneous theatrical & OTT release or OTT release in 14 days after theatrical release."
