Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, admitted to the Lilavati Hospital here with inflammation of the intestines, is "almost" back to normal but needed more rest, hospital sources said Wednesday.

"He had a peaceful night last night and is now stable. He just needs some rest now," a hospital official said.

"The decision on his discharge could come any time. He woke up at around 6.30 a.m. and had a light breakfast before reading the morning papers," he said.

Bachchan, 63, was flown in from Delhi late Monday and was admitted to hospital for severe abdominal pain.

Son Abhishek and wife Jaya have been with Bachchan right through.
