Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who underwent an abdominal surgery last week, was Wednesday shifted out of the Lilavati Hospital's intensive care unit to a special suite set up for him.

The 63-year-old actor, who was admitted to the hospital here Nov 28 after he complained of acute stomachache, underwent a major surgery for diverticulitis of the small intestine Nov 30.

"Mr Bachchan has been shifted to a special suite set up exclusively for him and is recuperating well as of now," a hospital official said.

According to sources, the actor's health is improving but he will remain in the hospital for another week before going home.

Doctors attending on him had Tuesday decided to continue his liquid diet, though intravenous fluids were discontinued, except for antibiotics and vitamin supplements.
