What is it all about?

Brilliantly crafted pulse riser of highest orders this Baby’ is the ‘Baap’ of B-town’s spy thrillers. T-series reunites the awesome deadly combo of Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey post ‘Special 26’ in association with Friday Filmworks and Crouching Tiger to give a distinguish feat of cinema that’s not just a state-of-the-art pulse -quickening actioner but a great film as well.

Neeraj Pandey’s terrific direction, Akshay Kumar’s awesome death defying stunts and a no nonsense plot promises super strong commercial prospects. The added advantage of holiday on Monday and mouth watering positive response will ensure ‘Baby’ a ‘Big’ leap at the box office.

The Story

Neeraj Pandey keeps it simple and straight. ‘Baby’ is an Indian undercover unit headed by Feroze Ali Khan (Danny Denzongpa). Ajay Singh Rajput (Akshay Kumar) is the key leader of this unit which is formed to nail the terrorist and false their terror attack plans.

Pakistani mastermind of the terror front Maulana Mohammed Rahman played by ‘Khuda Ke Liye’ fame Pakistani actor Rasheed Naz is spreading hatred and preparing fresh zihadis at the border without much bother.

Within seconds Neeraj Pandey is bang on target without indulging in any hanky panky, Neeraj in his tight screenplay makes ‘Baby’ travel from Istanbul To Nepal To Saudi as the narrative breathlessly takes us to the final nab, we also get a peck of smart humor in between to relax our nostrils and make us breathe with ease for a moment preparing us for the next adrenaline kick every now and then.

What to look out for

From common man ( A Wednesday) to con man (Special 26) and from con man to a man of honour in ‘Baby’ Neeraj Pandey demonstrates how brilliantly he has emerged as a distinguish filmmaker of India.

Right from the very first frame ‘Baby’ is bang on target, doesn,t move from its ‘duty’ to engage denying any single moment of boredom. Remarkable.

Baby’ is a just perfect film for this genre. A visceral nonstop pulse-quickner with hardly any cliché of melodrama attached to India’s spy action thrillers.

‘Baby’ is groomed with outstanding action by stunt director Cyril Raffaelli - the death defying stunts are a treat for action and Akshay loyalist all over guaranteeing a repeat run.

Shot exquisitely ‘Baby’ is technically brilliant. Sudeep Chatterjee’s Cinematography is amazing the picturesque capture of Turkey, Nepal and Saudi is a treat for the eye.

Shree Narayan Singh’s crispy sharp editing deserves special mention. Vicky Sidana production design is adept. Production values are of highest standards.

Akshay Kumar nails a terrific outstanding portrayal of a no nonsense undercover agent with tremendous honesty in his remarkable capacity as the fittest action super star of Bollywood.

Anupam Kher is brilliant. Tapsee Pannu is remarkable as Akshay’s team member. Danny Denzongpa is outstanding. Kay Kay Menon in a short but meaningful role is menacing. Rana Daggubati is super. Sushant Singh is excellent. Rasheed Naz is terrific. Madhurima Tuli who plays AKshay’s wife is fine.

Another Pakistani actor Mikaal Zulfiqar who plays Ashfaq is excellent.

What not

The item song during the end credits for this genre was not really needed.  A couple of phone calls to Akshay from her wife could have being avoided. The song ‘Mein Tujh Se Pyar Nahi Karti’ could have being easily avoided though it comes in a shorter version. The filmmaker takes some liberty here and there.

Conclusion: ‘Baby’ is a brilliantly crafted, terrifically performed, pulse quickening salutary kick to India’s spy thrill genre flick. Watch it if you love Bollywood and more if you are an Indian.
