As reported already, Baba Ramdev's Patanjali has come up with Coronil, a "cure" for Covid-19. Hours after it was launched on Tuesday, the AYUSH Ministry of the central government asked Patanjali to stop advertising it. It also directed the Ayurvedic company to submit details of the composition of Coronil and other important information.
Meanwhile, questions arise as regards the efficiency of the drug. Remember, Ramdev has claimed it to be a cure and not as a mere treatment.
Amid a raging controversy over Ramdev's claims, The Print on Wednesday reported that the clinical trials didn't involve symptomatic patients with co-morbidities. It's people with diabetes, hypertension and the like who are most vulnerable to coronavirus. Fatality rate among them is higher. Considering these factors, the clinical trials should have ideally involved such patients.
The portal says in its report that Patanjali chose mostly young people in the age group of 35-45 for the trials. That too, most of them showed only mild symptoms.
In all likelihood, Patanjali might be asked to stop advertising Coronil as a cure. It can be sold as an immunity-boosting treatment regime, perhaps.
Ashwagandha, Giloy and Tulsi are said to be the ingredients of the drug.
