The ‘Glitz’ Factor
The story is different and breaks away the barriers of the stereo type treatment which he have seen in time travel based films. The screenplay is tight and intriguing, especially in the first half of the film. The finale part is emotionally engaging and talks about the small necessities of life. The dialogues are witty and goes well with the flow of the film. The cinematography by Ravi K Chandran is of top notch.Music is one of the biggest highlights of the film. ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ is a sweet and soothing song with superb picturization. ‘SauAasman’, ‘Nachde Ne Saare’ and ‘KalChashma’ are the chartbuster foot tapping songs, which keeps you entertained in the film.Director NityaMehra was assistant director on films like ‘Life of Pi’ and ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ and this is her directorial debut. She comes up with an unusual story with effects similar to the time - travel genre, but sums it up by delivering a different type of love story.Sidharth tries hard to do justice to his role.Katrina Kaif looks smashing and does her part with total grace. In terms of their physical appearances Sidharth and Katrina complement each other in the movie. Ram Kapoor, Sarika and RajitKapur lend good support.
The ‘Non-Glitz’ Factor
The second half of the movie goes on the repeat mode and tries to forcefully confuse the viewers in the second half of the film. Though, the makers have a logical ending for all the happenings, but despite of that there are many glitches in a few of the tracks. The movie is set in various time zones such as 2016, 2018, 2024, 2034 and 2047. It might be easy for viewers who follow such types of films to understand the different time zones while the others will be confused and find it hard to follow.Editing should have been tight in the second half as the movie seems like never ending drama in the middle portions. It’s only that the different time zones and bit jumbled up screenplay might not go well with the sensibilities of the mass audience. The movie should have also been bit trimmed down as in the second half it drags to the fullest. Sidharthmanages to pull the show on his young shoulders, but still needs a good amount of experience and finesse.Sayani Gupta, Taaha Shah Badusha and Rohan Joshi are wasted.
Final ‘Glitz’
Although not a typical Karan Johar type film, Baar Baar Dekho deserves to be seen for its music, glamour and unusual theme. Jumbled up screenplay and dragging second half might put off the audience.
