Expectations

Tiger Shroff made his mark with the surprise hit 'Heropanti', which was the only hit film after 'Kaho Na Pyar Hai' starring debutants. 'Heropanti' had fantastic music and curiosity attached to a star kid, but after watching the audience did discover a few of Tiger’s skills. The main skill of Tiger was dancing followed by fantastic action. These skills made him immensely popular among the younger generation especially children. Thus, right from the first promo of 'Baaghi', the youngsters and kids are eagerly waiting to see their new action hero in his full form. As the movie promises to have some mind blowing martial arts. All these reasons along with the presence of Shraddha Kapoor (who is riding high after her last few films), 'Baaghi' seems to set the expectation level on a high note.

Story

'Baaghi' is a story of an upcoming actress Sia (Shraddha Kapoor), who gets kidnapped by a Bangkok based power businessman Raghav (Sudheer Babu). Sia's father P.P Khurrana (Sunil Grover) fails to get any help from local police and administration. He, along with the film’s producer approaches Ronny (Tiger Shroff) to save Sia from the clutches of Raghav. Ronny is in need of money and thus agrees to do so. This is not the only reason for Ronny to save Sia. They both have a past which deals with their love and separation.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The first half is totally entertaining and enjoyable. There are some enjoyable scenes featuring Tiger and his action, especially in the climax scene. The cinematography by Binod Pradhan is superb. He makes the screen look rich with beautiful locations of Kerala and Bangkok. The action sequences are one of the key highlight of the film. Almost every action sequence is a visual treat. Speaking about the music, 'Sab Tera', 'Girl I Need You' and 'Cham Cham' are visually appealing. Background music supports the theme of the film. Director Sabbir Khan comes up with an out and out masala entertainer with a mixture of many stories and presents them in his own way. He succeeds in many parts and keeping you glued to the silver screen. Tiger Shorff looks cool and manages to strike a good screen presence. He stumbles a bit on the acting front but, when it comes to the action part, he is outstanding. Shraddha Kapoor looks cute and charming. She dances and fights well but, required more detailing to her character. Guruswamy as Guruji is fantastic.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

On the flip side, many scenes are illogically placed along with abrupt song placement. There are many scenes which are not justified. These scenes dilutes the intensity of the film as they seemed forced and weak. There are few unwanted tracks like the whole Sanjay Mishra part which fails to gel with the flow of the film. The sudden connection with Ramayan seemed unwanted. The second half is dragging with many unwanted and unreasonable tracks followed by nail biting action in the climax. Editing should have been crispier in the second half. The director should have added some logical explanation and some amount of detailing in many scenes. Sudheer Babu lends good support but, again his character too, required more detailing, failing to which he ends up just above the regular villains from today's times. Sanjay Mishra was unwanted. Sunil Grover was fake and artificial.

Final 'Glitz'

'Baaghi' has rebellious action with bland reasons attached to it due to which it will cater only to those who love good action films and the single screen audience. The multiplex and family audience might not like the gore action with mindless drama attached to it.

Rating: 2.50 / 5.0
