In an emotional letter, dissident DMK leader M.K. Azhagiri has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inviting his parents Karunanidhi and Dayalu Ammal to come to Modi’s New Delhi residence and take rest in their old age.
Modi, who was in Chennai on Monday morning to attend the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the popular newspaper Dina Thanthi, made an unscheduled visit to the Gopalapuram residence of the nonagenarian DMK president M. Karunanidhi to call on the latter. Modi also invited Karunanidhi and Dayalu Ammal to his residence in New Delhi so that he would take personal care of their health.
Modi’s gesture and inviting Karunanidhi and Dayalu has touched the hearts of DMK cadres and leaders. Azhagiri, who briefly served as Union Chemicals & Fertilizers Ministers during the erstwhile UPA regime, has penned an emotional letter to Modi thanking him personally for visiting his ailing father.
“I wasn’t aware of your visit to my father’s place; had I known it in advance, I would have been present at the time of your visit. Your invitation to my parents to come and stay at your New Delhi residence would surely serve as a great boost in improving their health condition. I also convey my congratulations to you on your several initiatives which are bound to take the country forward in many sectors,” he said.
