A class 12 student from Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh has been arrested after he posted morphed videos of two sisters on popular video-sharing app, TikTok.
The girls found out about the video after it went viral on social media. They immediately filed a complaint with the police. The accused, identified as Pankaj Sahni (18), has been arrested. He confessed to taking pictures of the sisters while attending a wedding and then uploading them on TikTok and Facebook using fake accounts. "We are sending a notice to TikTok which was misused in this case. We are seeking details on how they are going to check criminal activities on their platform. How are they ensuring that no objectionable or obscene content is uploaded on their platform? I have asked TikTok to explain the steps being taken by the company to check such criminal acts being committed by using their platform and why TikTok should not be charged under section 3(2)(c) and section 85 of IT Act 2009 (Amended)," a police official reportedly told a news agency.
The accused has been remanded in judicial custody while the investigation is in progress. The police have sought a statement from TikTok regarding the violation of privacy and security.
