Sunny Deol just revealed the much awaited follow-up to his 1997 hit, "Border". Originally reported to include Ayushmann Khurrana alongside Sunny, "Border 2" was directed by Anurag Singh. Recent Mid-day sources, however, show Ayushmann has left the project. According to sources, Ayushmann chose to quit following protracted debates over questions regarding his place in the ensemble group headed by Sunny Deol.
"Although both he and the team were eager to work together, Ayushmann was worried about his place in the movie; he was set to play a soldier," a source informed the newspaper.
Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh joining the cast has also been speculated upon. Diljit has been contacted; the source cited says nothing is confirmed. Given their big fan base in northern India, his team with Sunny would be interesting. November is supposed to mark the start of shooting on the movie.
Celebrated in June 2024, the first "Border", under the direction of JP Dutta, marks its 27th anniversary "27 saal pehle ek fauji ne vada kiya tha ki vo vapas aayega," Sunny Deol said on Instagram on announcing "Border 2". " Ussi vaade ko poora Karne, Hindustan ki mitti ko apna salaam kehne, aa raha hai. This turns into a vow given by a soldier 27 years ago to return and respect India's soil.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, the sequel will return to the Battle of Longewala scene, much as the first. Celebrated for its compelling plot and unforgettable music—including the popular song "Sandese Aate Hai" by Roopkumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam—the 1997 film was hailed.
