Various state governments in India have taken timely and adequate measures to prevent law and order issues in the wake of the Ayodhya verdict. In this regard, they have urged citizens as well as media organizations to completely refrain from doing or saying anything that can be seen as sensitive or offensive.
The Telangana police are on a strict vigil. When ABN Andhra Jyoti's social media handles today launched a poll asking readers if they welcome the Supreme Court's verdict on the Ayodhya case, the Hyderabad Police asked them to delete the poll.
"Opinion polls are commonly held on all sorts of issues by media organizations. They don't breach any law but police are extra-cautious this time because of the sensitivity of the issue," an observer says.
Police departments across the country are strictly monitoring social media comments.
