The first theatrical Tamil feature film by Sumathy Ram, Vishwa Thulasi, has won the 'Gold Special Jury Award' at the World Fest-Houston film festival recently for direction.

Besides, the music score of 'Vishwa-Thulasi' won the Gold Remi Award for its craft category in the name of the composers M S Viswanathan and Ilayaraja.

There were more than 4500 category entries in all film and video competitions and around 15 percent of the entries won awards - Stephen Spielberg and Ang Lee getting their maiden ones.

Vishwa Thulasi, a sensitively crafted film, deserves the award. The box office reaction in Tamil Nadu, when the film was released here, was less than impressive.
