Avunanna Kadhanna

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Telugu Comments

Whatever Teja does is taken note of. In an industry that is short on characters, Teja, with his maverick and controversial in-your-face approach, has been a one-man soap opera of sorts. There is a never a dull moment with him around.

Alas, the same cannot be said of his films, especially the recent ones. Most of them have just vanished off the theaters without matching the irreverent attraction of their director. The last offering Dhairiyam, in fact, raised a controversy of a more intense nature ---leading to filing of police complaints.

But trust Teja to put all those behind him. Though you may like his films or not, the fact he is a workaholic. And that is why Avunanna Kadhanna  is all set to be completed. But for Teja's famed commitment the film would not have been possible.

If making it possible is Teja's mantra, it had better work. For he needs a hit more desperately than an asthmatic patient would fresh air. If the film is a flop, his days in the industry will be numbered. Not that he will run out of movies, it is just that the public would not take him serious anymore.

It is a predicament that the film's hero Uday Kiran understands only too well. If any thing, he is enduring the same predicament. After a series of flops, he has just vanished off the public radar.

For the heroine, Sada, it is a different kind of test. She has not been around in Telugu for quite some time now. So she is also in a kind of now-or-never test.

And in the event, the hero and heroine are happy to be doing a film together for a man who discovered in the first place.

Perhaps for the first time, Teja has moved from the urban jungles and decided to focus on a rural love story. He says the film has come out very well and is also happy for the performance of his two proteges. Uday plays a coarse rural bumpkin.

The music of old Teja favorite R P Patnaik is also being talked  of very highly.

Pilla Prasad of Sri Anjaneyam fame is playing the villain with the likes of Dharmavarapu Subramanyam, Suman Setty, Rallapalli, Duvvasi Mohan and Sangeeta also in the cast.

On the whole, the film is a test of nerves for the three.
