Avengers is Superhit, Bollywood needs to pull up its socks

It was Avengers and only Avengers that found audience of any kind in theaters. After a good start at the box office which fetched a weekend of over 35 crore, the film continued to hold well over the weekdays too. As a result, the first week collections read over 53 crore, which are quite good by all standards. Though the craze and word of mouth wasn't as excellent as Fast & Furious 7 (it was still quite good though), it doesn't matter because the film has done its job and is now yet another superhit Hollywood affair in India.
The film is now all second to be the third, if not the second highest Hollywood grosser of all times in India, which is good news indeed for audience, exhibitors and distributors. After all, the manner in which box office windows were pretty much lying locked over the last few weeks are finally open and it is crystal clear that content, and not IPL or lack of money was keeping audience at home. A good film is bound to score and now it is expected that Bollywood would follow suit as well, starting from Gabbar Is Back.
No wonder, it is about time the industry realizes that the likes of Ishq Ke Parindey, Jai Ho! Democracy and Kaagaz Ke Fools are pretty much passé and there is no point even releasing them if either the content or marketing is not up to the mark. The disastrous fate of these films, which proved to be non-starters from Day One itself, pretty much proves that.
