Amid much anticipation for Avatar, James Cameron’s sequel Avatar: The Way of Water, Hollywood singer The Weeknd teased fans about his new music for the film. That’s true! The Canadian singer on December 4 tweeted a short clip that hints at his appearance on the Avatar 2 soundtrack.
The short clip teased a drumbeat score accompanied with a choir, reminding of the previous film’s dazzling score designed by James Horner. In response, the film’s official account retweeted the post and uploaded a clip of the account following the Weeknd on Twitter. Jon Landau, the film’s producer, followed suit, posting a clip of the two together with the caption: “As the Na’vi [the fictional language of the film] say, ‘Zola’u nìprrte’ soaiane Avatar’… Welcome to the Avatar family.”
Avatar: The Way of Water will usher audiences back to the film's fantastical setting after an extensive thirteen-year gap between the sequel and the ground-breaking original. Avatar remains the highest-grossing film of all time, an accomplishment the sequel will aim to reach throughout its theatrical run.
It is unclear what role this brand-new single will play in Avatar 2, but its tease looks to stoke the fires of excitement even further as the film rapidly approaches. Behind the scenes, reports have claimed that the production budget alone for the film has reached $250 million. Avatar: The Way of Water will hit officially theaters on December 16, 2022.
