Avan Chaandiyude Makan
Prithviraj maybe in no hurry as a Malayalam hero. He has found a niche for himself as a talented hero in the neighboring Tamil Nadu. The young star is a happening hero there.
But Prithviraj hasn't exactly turned his back on Malluwood. He is doing sensitive and sensible projects Like Avan Chandiyude Makan. This is an emotional gut-wrencher. A movie that pits perseverant children against a cruel dad.
It is Prithvi's role as Kuriachan that is eponymous --- he is the son of Chandy in the movie.
Chandy, played with finesse and understanding by Vijayaraghavan, is a heartless man, who doesn't want to share his wealth with his children. Long after his wife's death, Chandy gets into a no-hold's barred struggle with his children for the wealth their mother left for them.
The children --- five of them, one son and four daughters are in different states and status of their life.
Kuriachan (Prithviraj), as the only son of a devious father, has to show the path for the others. Kuriachan queers the pitch further for himself by marrying a girl from a Hindu caste (Sreedevika).
As the director Thulasidas says it is a sentimental tearjerker. But it is full of drama and twists, he adds.
Prithvi and Vijayaraghavan have given a sterling performance, he says. Sreedevika is also on a good wicket.
The film has been shot in locations like Kochi, Kambam and Theni. It is set for a Vishu release.
