The Indian team has recorded its lowest score in the history of Test cricket after Australia bundled out India for 36 on day three of their first Test in Adelaide.

With India finishing at 36/9, the Australian team was left with a target of 90 runs. After the fall of nightwatchman Jasprit Bumrah's wicket, things came down collapsing for India with subsequent wickets. While Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane got out for zero, skipper Virat Kohli, who had scored a decent half century in the first innings, was dismissed for 4 runs. Australian pacers Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins were unstoppable with the ball in the second innings as they took five wickets and four wickets, respectively. Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav fell in quick succession subsequently in a similar fashion. When Mohammad Shami retired after being struck on the arm, the visitors were restricted to 36/9, recording their lowest ever score in Test cricket history, only six runs short of the 42 India had scored against England in 1974 at Lord's.

India's performance in the second innings has also raised concerns over their upcoming Test due to the unavailability of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as well as Mohammed Shami's current state of fitness owing to his arm injury. On Day 2 of the first Test, India bowled out Australia for 191, taking a 53 run lead.
