In an incident which would dent the ensuing New Year celebrations of security forces in the Valley, 2 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldiers were killed in pre-noon attack at a CRPF training centre in the trouble-torn State of Jammu & Kashmir by a couple of ‘heavily-armed’ terrorists.
Eye-witnesses say that the terrorists threw grenade to hide their identities while breaching the top-security facility at Jammu & Kashmir’s Pulwama District. Initial reports say that the terrorists were retaliated by the security forces. Two terrorists were killed on the spot while hunt is on to trace missing third terrorist.
Jaish-e-Mohammed, a splinter terrorist group operating from Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack which occurred in the wee hours i.e. between 02:00 a.m. and 03:00 a.m. Terrorists threw grenades and opened fire at the training centre of CRPF’s 185th Battalion at Pulwama, around 25-30 kilometer from Srinagar. DGP Vaid said they had prior information about the attack though the data wasn’t clear.
The gun-battle between the security forces and the terrorists lasted 10 hours.
