In the state of Maharashtra, there has been a great stir as the public has gathered at the ATM centre following the news spread that the machine dispenses 5 times extra cash while withdrawing money.
On June 16, a man went to an ATM in Nagpur, Maharashtra to withdraw Rs 500. Instead, the machine dispensed five notes of 500 rupees currency but his account statement read that he had withdrawn only Rs 500. Left with surprise, the man repeated the process and he got Rs 2,500 again while trying to withdraw just Rs 500.
The incident took place at a private bank's ATM in Khaparkheda town, located around 30 km from Nagpur city. The news spread like wildfire and soon a huge crowd gathered outside the specific centre to withdraw cash. Upon learning this, the bank employees immediately informed the cops.
The police and bank employees rushed to the concerned spot and closed the ATM centre. An official said, "The ATM was dispensing extra cash due to a technical glitch. The currency notes of Rs 500 denomination were erroneously kept in the ATM tray meant to dispense notes of Rs 100 denomination. No case has been registered so far in this regard."
