Asian Games gold medallist Sudha Singh is a national champion in 3,000m steeplechase nine times in the past. She was recently offered a cash prize of Rs 30 lakh by the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. However, Sudha refused to accept it first. Reason? She said that she would accept the felicitation and the money only if she was offered a job at a sports directorate. Eventually, the government accepted her demand after some drama.
The sports champion argued that she deserved a key position at the directorate as she has won a gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games and a silver at the 2018 Asian Games. In fact, Sudha walked out after refusing to accept the cheque for Rs 30 lakhs in the middle of an event presided over by state governor Ram Naik. The event had to be halted for some time. She demanded a job and nothing less.
It's then that the CM stepped in and conceded the sportswoman's legitimate demand. She had threatened to leave the state of UP forever if she was not offered the job.
