Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan' is planned to go on floors in December in Chennai and the forests of Thailand in the initial schedule. The all-star cast includes Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Prabhu, Jayaram, Parthiban, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Keerthy Suresh, Amala Paul and Amitabh Bachchan.

Ashwin Kakkamanu of 'Idharku Thaaney Aasaipattai Balakumara' fame has shared that he is playing an important role in the film. His SM post reads "Looking forward to enjoying the process & the journey.I was part of background sound fx for the college students in 'Ayutha Ezhuthu' and so it's extra special to play a role in 'Ponniyin Selvan'. A.R. Rahman is scoring the music for this adaptation of Kalki's famous novel of the same name produced by Lyca Productions.
