As Vijay Deverakonda gets trolled, brother defends

The other day, during a debate with stars like Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and others, Vijay Deverakonda defended the "toxic masculinity" in 'Arjun Reddy' by saying that it's alright to give and take "little hits" in love. The 'World Famous Lover' has, expectedly, irked feminists and humanists alike by justifying abuse in the name of love.

Coming to his elder brother's defence, 'Dorasani' actor Anand Deverakonda said that it's silly to suggest that 'Arjun Reddy' had any trace of misogyny. "It's commendable when people voice their opinion in public, even more if it's for a good cause. But any commentary or review on misogyny in Arjun Reddy is absurd/ridiculous. Arjun is a flawed guy, but it is his "out-of-control-anger" characteristic that makes him flawed. Because of this anger, he gets himself in a situation where he is in incredible emotional and physical pain (2nd half of the movie focuses on this). What's wrong in glorifying love, love of any kind. The kind of love we also see in Revolutionary Road, Blue Valentine and The Notebook, for example? And who's anyone to tell people how to love. Don't get me wrong, I'm all against harassment, abuse and predators. None of which, Arjun Reddy was. I'm sure these reviewers/commentators enjoyed watching the above-mentioned movies," he wrote.

The youngster then drew a parallel with the Hollywood blockbuster 'Joker'. "I loved the movie, Joker. And if that character wasn't glorified, I don't know what it was. The whole symphony during the climax with hundreds of vigilantes cheering for The Joker makes it a glorification. Even though it was all from a make-believe world. But because the audience hooted and whistled while watching the movie, it doesn't make them go on a killing spree, does it? Unless there was already a mentally disturbed guy in the audience, who was brought up with bad parenting, abusive childhood, improper guidance," Anand signed off.

Will there ever be any full-stop for the 'Arjun Reddy' debate?
