India has logged one million coronavirus positive cases. Amid reports that confirmed cases are surging in many parts of the country, with the positivity rate inching closer to 10%, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has predicted that the country will have two million cases by the second week of August.
It's not like we are doing great on active cases either. The number of active cases is increasing at a significant speed of 3.2%, says Prof. Shamika Ravi, adding that India will have 6.60 lakh active cases by August 7.
Prof. Ravi says that Pune, with more than 2000 cases per day, is currently more alarming than Mumbai (with about 1250 daily cases). Hyderabad, with a daily caseload of more than 750 cases, and Kolkata with more than 400 daily new cases with a high rate of deaths, are also a headache.
Delhi with 115,000 cases is showing "remarkable recovery", while Mumbai with 95,000 cases is witnessing only "little improvement". Chennai with 80,000 cases is showing "remarkable recovery" like Delhi, while Bengaluru with 21,000 cases is witnessing "alarming escalation".
