India on Sunday logged more than 40,000 coronavirus cases, thereby bringing its cumulative tally to 1.11 million. Health bulletins from different States say that 681 deaths happened in the 24-hour period. The cumulative toll as of now is 27,497. About 2.38 lakh cases were reported in the last one week period, with one lakh of them coming in the last three days.
On the other hand, the number of recoveries stands at 7 lakh. About 4 lakh are active cases.
Case fatality rate (CFR) is less than 2.49%, which is 1.78 percentage points lower than the global average.
Prof. Shamika Ravi has said that Maharashtra alone has 28% of all-India cases and 33% of all active cases. She also feels that India has done reasonably well.
"If India continued to grow at 7-day doubling rate (as 13 April), today there would be 128 million cases. Actual growth, fortunately, has been much slower. Flattening of the curve means slowing down the spread," the Professor tweets out.
